The Bel Canto Women’s Chorus is an auditioned women’s ensemble based in Bountiful, Utah, devoted to technical and artistic excellence, grounded in joyful rehearsals, friendship, and a shared spirit of support.
To Join
Singers are accepted into Bel Canto through auditions. Auditions are generally held during the summer, and Fall Session usually begins mid-September. You may view and book open audition times below. Feel free to reach out to Dr. Mills (belcantosings@gmail.com, or (385) 223-9618)) to discuss options for auditions after the session begins, or if there are no audition times available that work for your schedule.
Available Audition Times
We are always interested in meeting new singers who:
1) Sing in tune.
2) Are highly proactive in singing with artistry and expression--the first time, every time. We strive for the highest level of artistry of which we are capable. We expect singers to be proactive in:
* Applying strong/weak to words
* Singing dynamics as written
* Having energy and a sense of direction in the vocal line
* Singing entrances and cutoffs with precision and courage
3). Have a healthy vocal sound, and possess basic choral skills, including:
* Using both straight tone and vibrato
* Demonstrating a resonant and varied range of tone colors from bright to dark
* Modifing vowels appropriately
* Using proper breath support
* Listening carefully to blend and balance with other singers
4) Are excellent sight-readers who learn the notes/rhythms on their own time, and come to rehearsal ready to refine and polish the music. In Bel Canto, singers do not come to rehearsal to learn the music; they learn it on their own time, and come to rehearsal to make the music come to life. We don't routinely provide any part-learning resources; we expect you to do that on your own time and in your own way.
5) Are team players who want to sing in a happy, supportive, loving, enthusiastic, genuine environment. We take the music seriously, but we don't take ourselves too seriously. We laugh a lot, talk with each other, develop friendships, offer love and kindness to each other, and look at Bel Canto as our safe, happy little weekly choral spa--a beautiful and peaceful place--an escape from the world for 90 minutes each week.
Registration Information
Tuition is $200 per session of Bel Canto. A $75 non-refundable registration fee, due one month prior to the start of rehearsals, will secure your place in Bel Canto and will go towards that $200. The remaining $125 will be billed to you through MyMusicStaff, and can be paid in one sum or in installments.
EARLY-BIRD REGISTRATION DISCOUNTS: If you register any time up until one month prior to rehearsals beginning, you'll get $10 off your tuition.
FALL + WINTER: If you choose to register for both Fall and Winter sessions, you will get a discount of $25 (tuition can be paid in one sum or in installments). We reward long-term planners! :).
NEW MEMBERS: If you successfully pass your audition, Dr. Mills will invite you to register (below).
